I have had a fever for the past couple of days. It is limiting how much food prep I am able and willing to do. I have a hefty head of green cabbage in the fridge waiting for their fermentation start date.

My partner made traditional mincemeat pie from scratch over this past week. I had never had it before. It has something called "suet" in it that gives it a unique texture and density. Beef suet is a type of fat that is found around the cow's kindeys and loins. It is almost entirely fat. Suet isn't used much in American home cooking anymore, which makes it difficult to find, but also cheap when a butcher has some on hand. It was commonly used for preservation in America, and is still used regularly in Europe. Our's was around $1.20 per pound. Suet is also used in chickadee feed. Did you know that chickadees are opportunistic carnivores?

I don't like being sick except for the weird dreams and hallucinations I get when I have a fever. I guess when I think about it, most folks don't like being sick.

I keep seeing myself as a teenager, in high school, surrounded by people, but their faces seem off. People I don't talk to anymore, or people that don't talk to me. People I never talked to and never learned their names, but they are a familiar part of the scenery of that stage in my life.

Someone I used to know used to talk about when they were high they saw little detachable strings that connect people--that we move through the world attaching and detaching from people. When you get tired of someone, *pop* just take your string away for a bit and come back when it's a better time. I thought it was a weird way to conceptualize relationships at the time, but the older I get, the more I see what they were talking about.

I am enjoying learning about HTML from Zonelets. I have been looking at what other folks have done with their Zonelets and I am inspired by their creativity. I intend to update the look of this site when I have the energy. I'm not sure what I want it to look like yet, but I do want to personalize it much more.
